MAKE A DIFFERENCE DAY
A big thank you to the Exchange Club of Quincy, IL

 |
The Exchange Club of Quincy Illinois, in conjunction with the National Exchange Club and Make a Difference Day, focused on a nature shelter for Saukenauk Scout Reservation for its National Day of Service project this year. With assistance from local Exchangites and members of Carpenter’s Local 189, Machinists Local 919 and the Eagle Valley Labor Management Council, a new, 22’ by 35’ shelter was constructed on Saturday, October 28 to replace the older shelter near the front of camp. The original shelter will now be used for other merit badge programs during summer camp. |
The new structure, located in the “Y” near Staff Row, will allow campers to be closer to the waterfront, thus increasing the time available to work on badges. Future plans for the structure include water and electrical service and plantings that will attract butterflies and hummingbirds. The Exchange Club provided funding for the materials used in the project, with assistance from Wood Mart, Gem City Ready Mix, RSC Equipment Rental and Rees Construction. |

The shelter will be named in memory of Richard “Dick” Seifert, a long-time Exchange Club member and past-president. Dick, who received the Silver Beaver award for his service and financial support to the Council, passed away earlier this year.
