Membership Numbers – Guest Editorial

Kudos to all the adult volunteers who have worked and are still helping grow our membership.  You might ask, “Why are membership numbers important?  Are we striving to put up big numbers for the sake of numbers?”

Certainly not!  Increased membership numbers tell us that we are being successful in serving boys – helping more boys gain confidence, grown in self-esteem, and develop leadership skills.  We make it possible for boys to learn that they have a contribution to make and the ability to bring value to their family, their school, their community, and the world.  These are the reasons that we, as a Council, need to reach out to potential new members.

Not every boy will join Scouting . . . we know that; but our job is to offer the “opportunity to join” to every boy.  That way, each boy (with his parents) can make a decision.  Make the ask . . . extend an invitation . . . provide the opportunity.
