Fall Recruiting Planning Underway Youth membership is the life-blood of Scouting. The process for all fall recruiting including Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Venturing, Exploring and Learning For Life is underway. The Council Membership Committee meets approximately four times a year to make sure your Pack, Troop, Crew, Post and Group all have the best tools available for a successful year-round recruiting experience. The National and Council recruiting theme for this year is Scouting Heroes ! We hope you are as excited as we are about honoring national and local people who may or may not be currently involved with Scouting but have had successful lives thanks in part to their Scouting experience. Please make sure your Scouting unit has its fall recruiting plan in place by mid- to late-August, at the latest, so that every available youth in your area (and their parents & relatives) have a chance to enjoy the finest youth development program in the world! A great place to get support with planning your local recruitment plan is at your District Fall Kickoff in August. See your District page for Fall Kickoff details. |
Join Scouting Video Contest We want kids to join Scouting – so we're asking Scouts to make the commercials! The Boy Scouts of America is engaging the creative energy of Scouts and the power of the Web to get youth excited about joining Scouting. We're asking Scouts to make “join Scouting” commercials with their home video cameras and upload them to www.BoysLife.org for the world to see. Viewers to the site can vote on their favorites. If their videos are chosen, Scouts can win Mac Power Books, Apple iTouches, or iTunes gift cards. Registered Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, and Venturers can submit their videos online at http://contests.boyslife.org/engine/Welcome.aspx?contestid-5452 through September 15. Finalists will be determined by the number of votes received between September 16 and September 30, 2009 . For complete rules, visit www.Boyslife.org . What's the message for youth? Do you love Scouting? Want your friends to join? Make a commercial to encourage your friends to join Scouting, and you could win a great prize. Once you've uploaded your video, send the link to your friends so they can vote for you. This is an awesome project and we know that we have many creative youth in our Council. It would be awesome to have at least one of our Scouts win the first place prize. You have the same chance of winning as does anyone else nationwide. Get going on this - the contest ends September 15, 2009! Good luck and have fun with it. Visit http://contests.boyslife.org/engine/Welcome.aspx?contestid-5452 Cub Pack School Recruitment Night The Council is asking all Cub Packs to hold their “Join Scout Night” on or before Thursday, September 17th . There will be a Cub Scout Campout/Cubanapolis held at Camp Eastman on Saturday, September 19th , and another Fall Cub Campout at Saukenauk Scout Reservation on October 3 & 4. We suggest your recruitment be held as early in the month as possible in order that your new families have time to prepare for these exciting Council events and the new Cub Scouts get an early opportunity to go camping and enjoy all the other fun activities they were promised! The Council will once again, for the fourth straight year, also be working with several major Council newspapers to produce a Scouting tabloid insert that will be published the first week of September. To have your “Join Scout Night” listed in this tabloid, we need your Pack recruitment information (date, time and place) by Monday, August 24th. Don't miss this opportunity.
