District Award of Merit/Dinner We want to thank our planning committee, Chairperson Jill Lucas of Fort Madison , and Committee Members Jeff Lucas of Fort Madison and Randy & Deb Voss of Warsaw . Great job, all! The highlight of the night was the awarding of the District Award of Merit. Be sure to congratulate our 2007 recipients Brent Edmondson of Kahoka, Bill Snyder of Nauvoo and David Harrison of Warsaw . The District cannot thank these fine River Valley leaders enough for all they have done and continue to do for the youth in our area! Friends of Scouting The 2008 Friends of Scouting Campaign has begun. River Valley hopes to duplicate and surpass 2007's huge success. Is your Pack or Troop signed up for an FOS presentation yet? The money raised supports the Council, which supports the District and your unit; but it is also an excellent opportunity for the families of your Scouts to see and hear about the bigger picture of Scouting that extends beyond the scope of your unit. We thank you in advance for your generosity and support. |
March 8 - 15 is the time table for your unit to participate in our National Good Turn, Scouting for Food. The food you collect stays in your community. Plan to participate and let your local news media know your date(s), collection point and food pantry site. Finally, let the Scout Office know how many food articles you collected, and log in to the Good Turn for America link on the Council Website to report your unit's service hours.
DISTRICT PINEWOOD DERBY RACE TIME All Cub Scouts are invited to bring their 2008 Pinewood Derby race cars to the District race on Saturday, April 19th in Fort Madison . Fliers with the location and start time will be disbursed at the March Roundtable. Please promote this to all your Pack families.
We hope you plan on participating in the Walk for Camp Eastman in late April or early May. This fundraiser helps keep our camp in tip-top shape and provides another way for your Scouts to go to camp free of charge! Several Scouts did this last year. Let's see how many can do it this year!
SPRING CAMPOREE & CUB ROCKET DAY The weekend of May 2-4 is scheduled for the District Spring Camporee and Scoutmobile Race. Cub Scouts, plan to join us on Saturday, May 3rd for the second annual Rocket Day! Fliers with all the event information will be distributed at Roundtables.
